PM MODI AWARDED CHAMPIONS OF THE EARTH AWARD

WHAT JUST HAPPENED ?

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on September 26,2018 awarded with the prestigious UN champions of the Earth Award 2018, the highest environmental honour of the United Nations.

 The UN Environment jointly awarded PM Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in the Policy Leadership category for their efforts regarding the creation of the International Solar Alliance.

 PM Modi also pledge to eliminate all single use plastic in India by 2022.

 ABOUT THE AWARD

 This award has been given to the 6 (six) world's most outstanding environmental change-makers.

The award could be given to Living & Non-Living things (Like company, Airport).

Out of total 6 award - India got 2 awards.

OTHER WINNERS

Cochin International Airport  - has also been honored this year with the award for Entrepreneurial Vision, for its leadership in the use of sustainable energy. This is world's first fully solar-powered airport.

 John Carling, an activist from the Philippines.

 Company Name - Beyond Meat and Impossible Food. This company make Burgers which tastes like almost beef, but it does not contain Beef. (for non-vegetarian lovers)

 China's Zhejiang's Green Rural Revival Programme.

This is  UN's highest environmental recognition, was founded in 2005.
