We know GOOGLE is banned in China

Due to 'Dragonfly Project' Google as a company is experiencing  'moral and ethics crisis'.

We all know Google by its values i.e. to support Freedom and to support not to censored the things by any government which is being searched by people (except the porn).

NOW - Google is compromising with all these things in project 'Dragon Fly'

Due to this hundreds of employees at the tech company, who are protesting the development of a censored search engine for internet users in China.

About 1,400 Google employees — out of the more than 88,000 — signed a letter to company executives this week, seeking more details and transparency about the project and demanding employee input in decisions about what kind of work Google takes on. They also expressed concern that the company is violating its own ethical principles.

DRAGONFLY  --:  Currently it is not launched, it is in prototyped phase. Google is making this search engine for China users.

Why GOOGLE is launching this ?

Google as a search engine is banned in China. Google want to capture the vast market of China, where the potential of billions of dollars.

DRAGONFLY search engine is compatible with China's state censorship provision i.e. whatever China's government don't want to displayed to it's people, DRAGONFLY will not search those things.

Example -
  • Let's China people search keyword 'EARTH' it will give results.
  • If China people search 'Tiananmen Square' so, Dragonfly search engine will not search this, as this is related to "massacre' happened in China.

Because, China's government kept away it's people from those things by which they think their government is not doing any things for them.

In  Mid-October 2018 presentation, Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed Dragonfly stating "We don't know whether we could do this in China , but we felt it was important for us to explore"

RISKS AND REWARDS OF DRAGONFLY

Since March 2010, when Google stopped servicing China via Google.cn China's internet population has increased by 70%. It currently clocks in at 772 million users, but could grow to 1.4 billion users with time.

This means that, for Google, who makes most of its revenue from advertisements run on its search engines, the potential profits of re-entering the Chinese search engine market are enormous.

RISE OF THE DOMESTIC CHINESE SEARCH ENGINE

Baidu, is considered as Google's counterpart in China.

Sogou,  is a search engine established in 2004. Even though it has not posed as rival for Baidu, it is still considered as a leader in the market.

Doing business in China is good for shareholders, bad for humanity

It’s no mystery why Google executives want to do business with Chinese government officials: It’s profitable.

With its population at 1.3 billion, China has the largest number of internet users in the world, so breaking into the Chinese market has been a long-time goal for Silicon Valley tech giants in their quest to find new users and to grow profits.
But working in China inevitably raises ethical issues for any US company.

Doing business in mainland China means making deals with an authoritarian government that has a record of human rights abuses and a strict suppression of speech.
