ARUNACHAL, ASSAM ON FLOOD ALERT - AFTER CHINA RELEASES WATER - HIGHEST IN LAST 50 YEARS
ALERT IN THE NORTH EAST
An alert has been sounded in three Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh and in Upper Assam after China informed India that the water level of the Tsangpo river was rising.
The water discharge in the Brahmaputra basin by China last week is highest in last 50 years.
ABOUT TSANGPO RIVER
Brahmaputra starts from Tibet where it's called as Tsangpo,and then flows to Arunachal Pradesh where it's called as Siang and then came to Assam where it's called as Brahmaputra.
The Siang joins two other rivers - Lohit & Dibang -- downstream to form the Brahmaputra.
CAUSE
The report from the Chinese government said the Tsangpo was swelling because of heavy rain in China.
The various GD (gauge and discharge) stations on the Tsangpo had observed a discharge of 9,020 cumec water on Wednesday morning, reportedly the highest in 50 years.
MAIN REASON
China has created number of dams on Tsangpo river and India criticized/complaint many times, but Chinese government did not stop its construction. The most controversial dam is "ZANGMU DAM".
In above picture, we can see four DAMS, but overall there are many dams and recently they have announced to built many more dams. For China, This is not a concern. But, whenever the water level get raises they release the water and that will cause havoc in India (North East Regions)
WARNING FROM CHINA
The circular said that according to reports sent to New Delhi by Chinese government,"Due to Heavy Rainfall in Chinese portion, the Tsangpo river is swelling and thus they discharge 9020 cumec(cubic metre per second) water in Tsangpo river."
Since any swelling in Tsangpo & Siang could lead to a possible rise in water levels in the Brahmaputra, Assam is also on its toes.
THE DOWNSTREAM IMPACT
India's North-Eastern states, especially Assam & Arunachal Pradesh , are alarmed by China's plan on Brahmaputra.
This is even not first time, In 2000 due to collapse of Dam on the Yigong river in Tibet cause havoc in Arunachal Pradesh.
We can save the people with help of Armed Forces. But the thing is that - we can avoid a big danger for few times. But eventually the disaster can came in future any time due to these dams built by china on Tsangpo river.

- The ZANGMU DAM is a gravity dam on the Yarlung Zangbo/Brahmaputra River 9 km (5.6 mi) northwest of Gyaca in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. This dam is built a few kilometers from the Bhutan- India border.
- It is the first dam on the Yarlung Zangbo/Brahmaputra River and has caused controversy in India.
