RAMSON MAGSAYSAY Award 2018 - Asian version of the Nobel Prize.

BACKGROUND

Ramson Magsaysay award is Asia's Highest award and is often regarded as Asia's nobel prize.

Ramson Magsaysay was the seventh President of the Philippines, who died in air disaster in 1957.

Magsaysay's administrator was considered one of the cleanest and most-corruption free in modern Philippines history; The period of his presidency is often cited as the Philippines's "Golden Years".

This Ramson  Magsaysay award first established in 1957 by trustee of the New York based Rockefeller brothers fund and Philippines Government in the memory of seventh president Ramson Magsaysay.

WHO WILL BE AWARDED IN 2018 WITH RAMSON MAGSAYSAY AWARD

Total six persons have been declared winner of 2018 Ramson Magsaysay award.
Out of these six. Two are Indians :-

  • Sonam Wangchuk
  • Bharat Vatwani
WHAT THEY WILL GET IN AWARD

 Winners will receive

  • A Certificate
  • Medallion bearing image of the late Ramson Magsaysay
  • Cash Prize (Approx USD 50,000)
WHEN THEY WILL GET THESE

As of Now, only winners are declared, But all the six winners will be conferred with award during formal presentation at cultural center in Manila, Philippines in August 2018.

Manila is the capital of Philippines.

This award always given on 31st August

The awards were given in six categories out of which five were discontinued in 2009. These are as below.

  • Emergent Leadership (2001– )

So Currently This award given only in two category 
  • 'Emergent Leadership' 
  • 'Uncategorized' category.

 WHO ARE SONAM WANGCHUK & BHARAT VATWANI

 Sonam Wangchuk  :  He is educational reformer from Ladakh. In 1988, he has founded Students Education and Cultural Movement of Ladakh to coach poor Ladakhi Students.

 He is widely regarded as inspiration for Aamir Khan's character , Phunsuk Wangdu in the film 3 idiots.
Bharat Vatwani  :   He is a psychiatrist who works for mentally-ill people living on the streets of Mumbai.
