PAKISTAN-RUSSIA MILITARY COOPERATION PACT - IMPACT ON INDIA

WHAT JUST HAPPENED

'Pakistan' and 'Russia' in August 2018 signed an agreement at their first Joint Military Consultative Committee (JMCC) meeting in Rawalpindi. 

During which : -
  • The two sides discussed the present status of the bilateral defence status.
  • And Agreed that Pakistani Troops will receive training at the Russian military training institute. 

 IMPROVEMENT IN RELATIONS

If we see from last so many years, relationship between PAKISTAN & RUSSIA get improved.

In 2007, the relations between Pakistan and Russia Federation were reactivated after 3 day visit official visit of Russia Prime Minister 'Mikhail Fradkov'.

He was the first Russian Prime minister to visit Pakistan.

RUSSIA's SUPPORTS TO PAKISTAN

  • In 2011, Russia changed its policy and Putin publicly endorsed Pakistan's bid to join the SCO ( Shanghai Cooperation Organization), Now in 2018 Both India & Pakistan are members of SCO.
  • In 2011, Russia strongly condemned the NATO Strike in Pakistan.
  • In 2015, Russia signs a landmark defence deal. This deal includes sales of Four MI-35 'Hind-E' attack helicopters to Pakistan.
  • In 2015, Another deal, In which Russia to invest $2Billion in project of constructing North-South gas pipeline.

MILITARY EXERCISES
  • The two countries have held two editions of Joint Military Exercise named 'DRUZBA' (Friendship) In Pakistan in (2016) and In Russia in (2017).
  • Both countries also held counter-narcotics naval exercise called "Arabian Monsoon" in the Arabian Sea in 2014 & 2015

So, we can see there is a Radical Change in relation between both countries in terms of defence in last so many years.

 According to the US-based publication, the Russians are keen to step in and fill the gap which the United States has created after halting security-related aid to Pakistan.
 
IMPACT ON INDIA

If Russia sells some sensitive technology to Pakistan, then it leads adverse effect on Superiority of India over Pakistan.

Though, Deals of India with Russia is very large in terms if share size, than of Pakistan deal with Russia.

Due to this, India always feels ease to make relations with US in terms of military Hardware.

But still, to make Balance in region, we also purchase military Hardware from Russia also.
