In Kerala, Monsoon has killed 37 and displaced 101,000 people. This is a very sad situation.
  • In Kerala - There is a reservoir named - Idukki Reservoir.
  • There are three dams on Idukki Reservoir named - Idukki, Cheruthoni and Kulamavu
  • Recently due to high rain in Kerala, This Reservoir capacity get fulls.
  • Then, the decision was taken by the state government to open the gates of Idukki Reservoir, as the Reservoir reached its full capacity.
  • Since Idukki dam does not have shutters, all five gates of Cheruthoni dam have now been opened up to dispel extra water.
This is the third time in history that the gates of Idukki reservoir have been opened. Residents of the Cherurhoni town, which is located nearby, have already been evacuated.

First opened in 1981. The second time the dam's shutters were opened was in October 1992, for 12 days.

The Idukki has a capacity of 2,403 feet. The administration was alarmed when the water levels touched 2,399 feet and then ordered the opening of gate to send the flood reservoir's water down the river Periyar

Periyar River in Kerala Periyar (meaning: big river) is the longest river and the river with the largest discharge potential in the Indian state of Kerala.
