ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE's - TOP 10 CONTRIBUTIONS TO INDIA



BACKGROUND

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician who thrice served as the Prime Minister of India:-
  • First for a term of 13 days in 1996, 
  • For a period of eleven months from 1998 to 1999, 
  • Then for a full term from 1999 to 2004.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee: 1924-2018 

Vajpayee contribution for India's growth is very Large. Vajpayee tenure is full of difficulties and there are so many challenges.

LIST OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO INDIA

1- RAISING INDIA GDP's

Under his tenure from 1998 to 2004 , India maintained a GDP rate of 8 percent, The inflation level came down to four percent and foreign exchange reserve were flourishing.

India faced catastrophic events during his tenure, including earthquake (2001), two Cyclones (1999 and 2000), a horrible drought (2002-2003), Oil crisis (2003),
the Kargil Conflict(1999) and a Parliamentary attack.

Yet he maintained a stable economy. 

2- SCIENCE & RESEARCH

Chandrayaan-1 - Vajpayee announced the project on course in his Independence Day speech on 15 August 2003.

 He made India a nuclear weapon state. In 1998, India conducted five nuclear test in one week.

 3 - RISE OF THE INDIAN TELECOM INDUSTRY

 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was separately created to head over the services and policies.

 To enhance the Telecom sector - He created Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal.

 4- ROAD PROJECTS

Largest highway project in India and the fifth longest in the world at 5846KM i.e. GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL, started by the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari.Vajpayee.

 Delhi (North) - Chennai (South) - Kolkata (East) - Mumbai (West) : GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL.

5- INTRODUCTION OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT

 He Introduced the 'Fiscal Responsibility Act' which aimed to reduce the fiscal deficit and boosts public-sector savings.

The Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Bill ( FRBM Bill ) was introduced in India by the then Finance Minister of India, Mr. Yashwant Sinha in Dec 2000

 6 - PRIVATIZATION

 Among the several milestone, Privatization was also appreciated.

 Giving rise to private Business in India, it reduced the Government's involvement in the industry.

He formed a 'Disinvestment ministry' . The most important disinvestment were  
Bharat Aluminium Company(BALCO), Hindustan Zinc, Indian Petrochemicals and VSNL.

 Due to the load on Government get decrease and functioning of government improved.

 7 - EDUCATION POLICY

It was the first time in India that elementary education became free for children aged 6-14 years.

 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, or SSA started during his tenure.

 8 - PRADHANMANTRI GRAMIN SADAK YOJNA

 The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is a nationwide plan in India to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages.

This Yojna started during his Tenure.

9- DIPLOMACY IN A DIFFICULT ERA
  
He maintain a diplomacy with Russia & USA in a difficult era in that time, when US started fight against terror and give help to Pakistan to fight against Terror.

Pakistan is exception here. But with other neighboring countries, Our relation get improved during his tenure.

10- LAHORE DECLARATION

 The Lahore Declaration was a bilateral agreement and governance treaty between India and Pakistan.

The Lahore treaty was one of the most important and historical treaties of India and Pakistan to normalise the relations to ease up the military tensions in South Asia

Treaty signed in 1999. 

 Maiden bus service between the two countries announced in this.

 Though, after this declaration - we did not get fruitful result. But still Lahore Declaration is a bold move by Vajpayee Ji.
Finally, Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on 16 August, 2018 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
