"AL JAZEERA" MAY HAVE TO SHUT DOWN BROADCAST in INDIA

BACKGROUND

"AL JAZEERA" - is a English television(news) channel, owned by the government of Qatar.

Al Jazeera is one of the largest news organization in the world, with 80 bureaus around the world.

 Al Jazeera also produces in-depth documentaries on current issues around the world.

 This channel have been criticized many times by various countries and have been involved in several controversies.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED ?
The government has withdrawn the Al Jazeera English television channel’s security clearance, without which it will need to stop broadcasting in the country.
Home Ministry has withdraw the 'Al Jazeera' English Television channel's security clearance.

Government has scrap Al Jazeera security clearance. Now, It can't broadcast in India.

 Though, Al Jazeera has filed the appeal to get the security clearance.

 REASON TO SCRAP SECURITY CLEARANCE OF AL JAZEERA
The government has withdrawn the Al Jazeera English television channel’s security clearance, without which it will need to stop broadcasting in the country.

While No Explanation is given by the government. But as per the 'Economic Times' :

 The decision stemmed from the broadcast documentary about militancy in Kashmir that was deemed as being biased. (i.e. They broadcast some documentary on Kashmir, in which they took favour of militant in a biased way and Government has shown in very bad way).

 This is not the first time. The channel had earlier been taken off air in 2015 for showing a wrong map of India.

WHAT HAPPENED IN 2015?

In 2015, the channel was suspended for five days because it showed an incorrect map of India with respect to Jammu & Kashmir. 

They show a big portion of Kashmir under Pakistan. Al Jazeera was suspended because it was a repeat offence, an official said.

The channel showed a black screen for five days and display below message on TV Channel when someone play that Channel.

OTHER COUNTRIES AGAINST AL-JAZEERA

 Saudi Arabia  - Saudi Arabia decided to ban Al- Jazeera and another Qatari websites. Al-Jazeera many times criticize Saudi and Trump policy towards Iran.

Al - Jazeera also praised Lebanese organization 'Hezbollah' and the Palestinians group Hamas. Both are terrorists Organization.

 And all due to this, Qatar Crisis start.

 Kuwait - Al-Jazeera office in Kuwait city was closed by government officials after airing a story on police crackdowns. The story had video of police beating activists.

 Kuwait's Minister of Information described Al-Jazeera's coverage as "Intervention in Kuwait domestic issue".

VIGILANT GOVERNMENT
  • According to sources, the government is keen to call out and prevent any adverse reporting on Kashmir by foreign media outlets.
  • In May 2018, MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) has sent letters to foreign journalists reminding them that they require prior permission to travel to certain areas under the Foreigners (Protected area) Order act, 1958.
So, time will tell, whether all this is good for Kashmir or not.
