WHAT are Border Haats ? - Bangladesh, India sign MoU for six Border Haats - IMPACT

BACKGROUND:

 The Border B/w India and Bangladesh is of around more than 4000 KM and Mostly it's Fenced.

 The Life of people Living near Borders are not good.

They have lack of Jobs.
Lack of Infrastructure.
Poverty is more.

WHAT IS BORDER HATT

Border Haat - is Basically a Market Place near Border. This is not a permanent market.

 Both India and Bangladesh govt give permission to open small market once in a week. i.e They open Border Hatt.

 So, actually, It's a meeting amount of people of India and Bangladesh people. They can buy & sell products which is beneficial for People living near borders.

 When This BORDER HATT Concept Came

India and Bangladesh approved this Border Hatt concept on 23rd October 2010 and signed a MoU on Border Hatt and Border trade along the India-Bangladesh Border. 

 The FIRST Border Hatt - Opened in 2015 along Tripura-Bangladesh Border.

 Currently(Till July 2018) - in Total There are  Four Border Hatt which are in working. - (In Meghalaya & Tripura)

 ADVANTAGE

  • Earlier families can't find Market Place to sell and Buy Products. Now, Market Place available.
  • They can sell and Buy their products and earn some money.
  • Many Families meet with each other (Like Many Indian Families earlier migrated to Bangladesh) - So with Border Hatt - They can meet also. (People to People Connect)
So, WIN-WIN situation for all .

 There are many restrictions also:

There are list of specific products which can be sell or buy.
There is a limit of amount.
BSF Forces always there.
The Trade at border haats is permitted to be carried out in Indian Rupee and Bangladesh Takka and also on BARTER BASIS (i.e. Someone can exchange Products to buy some other products)

 Following are the list of Commodities Are traded in the BORDER HATT
  • Vegetable Food Items, Fruits, Spices
  • Minor Forest Produce - Bamboo, Bamboo grass - EXCLUDING TIMBER
  • Garments, Cosmetics,Plastic Products, aluminum products.
  • Small Agriculture household implements ex axe, plough, chisel.

 There are NO BORDER Haats in operation along the Bhutan and Myanmar Border. But Myanmar keen to set up Border Haat. Official Talk is going on for this

Recently(July 2018) BORDER HATT is in News Because 


India Bangladesh joint Committee Meeting on Border Haat to review the HATT OPERATION  and propose new location for more haats.

India and Bangladesh discussed the potential of setting up border haats in six new locations of the northeast to boost trade ties between the two countries

The Meeting was held at AGARTALA (Capital City of) TRIPURA.

Issue/Challenge:

We need to take care of below points and make sure BSF always available to stop.
  • Smuggling
  • Illegal Immigration

Air passengers can soon use facial recognition technology to enter any airport in the country under the recently unveiled 'Digi Yatra Initiative'  by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. GRADUAL ROLL OUT With this initiative, the civil aviation ministry is looking to make ticket booking , airport entry and boarding pass security check in digital. The technology will soon be operational at Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports.
