PITCH BLACK(PB-18) - AIR FORCE EXERCISE , INDIA TO PARTICIPATE

BACKGROUND

Pitch Black is a biennial warfare exercise, Hosted by - RAAF(Royal Australian Air Force).

 It Normally Held in 'Northern Australia'. The first Pitch Black Exercise started in 1981 between different RAAF units.

 Later in 1990, it began as training exercise between Australia and Singapore and then was expanded as multilateral exercises by inviting international air-forces with which Australia has defence ties.

 The AIM of the exercise is to practice Offensive Counter Air & Defensive Counter Air combat in simulated war environment.

Asia-Pacific's largest air force training exercise.


 It traditionally consists of RED Team and Blue Team based at separate locations with one attacking other. (Any Member can be part of RED Team and Blue Team It's not fix and not divided on basis of nation)

 INDIA WILL PARTICIPATE FIRST TIME

 Australia has invited Australia in 'Pitch Black 18' Exercise and Indian Air force (IAF) for first time will participated in multinational air exercise PB-18 in Australia.

 It will be three week (27th July - 17th August 2018) exercise.

 WHAT ALL OTHER COUNTRIES PARTICIPATED 

In PB-18 4000 Personnel and up to 140 Aircrafts from 12 Participant countries :

  1. Australia
  2. India
  3. Singapore
  4. United States
  5. France 
  6. Germany
  7. Canada
  8. Netherlands
  9. Thailand
  10. Malaysia
  11. Indonesia 
  12. New Zealand
It will include day and night flying. CHINA is not participating.

More Info About IAF in PB-18
  • IAF contingent comprised of 145 air-warriors including Garud Commando.
  • Four Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter Planes . 
  • C130 & C-17 transport aircraft.
 After completion of exercise, on its return leg from Darwin(Australia) to Subang(Indonesia), IAF fighters will be refuelled in air for the first time by RAAF KC 30-A (Australia's One)

 This will be IAF's overall third participation in multilateral air combat exercise over lat three years.

  • Red Flag Exercise held in United States in 2016.
  • Blue Flag Air combat drill Exercise held in Israel in Nov 2017.
  • Pitch Black 18 - in Australia will be third.

WHAT IS DIGI YATRA INITIATIVE ? Air passengers can soon use facial recognition technology to enter any airport in the country under the recently unveiled 'Digi Yatra Initiative'  by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. GRADUAL ROLL OUT With this initiative, the civil aviation ministry is looking to make ticket booking , airport entry and boarding pass security check in digital. The technology will soon be operational at Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports.
